Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup weed killer and other products, has been sprayed more than any other agricultural chemical in history, according to a study published in 2016 in the journal Environmental Sciences Europe.
Yet, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer has concluded that glyphosate is a probable human carcinogen. And California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment has designated glyphosate a known carcinogen.
Thousands of people exposed to Roundup who developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma and other cancers are suing Monsanto saying the chemical giant knew for decades that glyphosate was dangerous. The lawsuits say the company failed to warn the public of the risk.

Jurors in San Francisco ordered Monsanto to pay $289.2 million to a dying school groundskeeper in the summer of 2018 in the first Roundup lawsuit that went to trial.
Just before that trial began in California state court, a judge cleared the way for hundreds of federal cases to move forward by ruling that experts could testify about Roundup’s link to cancer.
Monsanto says in securities filings that it’s facing lawsuits from about 5,200 people nationwide who say they were harmed by glyphosate.

A lot of factors determine whether and how much an individual may be compensated. The court system can be unpredictable. Factors affecting the amount may include how serious your injuries are, how much money you had to spend as a result, how much money you lost and whether you lost your job.
Unfortunately, the legal system moves slowly. It’s likely to take years for most of these cases to be resolved. But that clock doesn’t start ticking until you file your case. So the sooner you file, the sooner you’ll receive the compensation you deserve.
